Size
Workers monomorphic, about 1/16-1/8" long; queens about 1/4" long.

Brown to very dark reddish brown, approaching black.

Biology
Mature colonies are moderate to large, composed of up to several thousand workers but only one queen.

Habit
Inside, they nest in areas of moist, rotting wood including behind bathroom tub wall tiles or in the bath trap, and damp crawl spaces.
